What’s the secret to life?
If you haven’t read The Alchemist, go to your local book store or Amazon and buy it, immediately! Paul Coelho states, “The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.” It’s a story about the never ending pursuit of happiness. A young Spanish shepherd is compelled to leave his life of comfort and follow his dreams of finding a great treasure. Along his journey he learns to trust “the soul of the world” and believe that there are forces in the world that want us to be happy. It’s an incredible journey about listening to your heart and overcoming fear.
Day 12 of my cleanse. I didn’t want to write this blog. I’m home late from a meeting and all I want to do is sit my butt on the couch, open a nice bottle of red wine, and watch a movie. The Conscious Cleanse calls this “cleanse fatigue.” The end is near and the temptations to stray, cheat, give in, and give up seem so much more intense. The choice to complete the journey far outweighs the quick fix to indulge my senses and ego needs. Hard work pays off and Sunday can’t come fast enough.
What is quest? What does it look like? Feel like? It could be a quest for knowledge; a pursuit to obtain something; a search for something that takes a long time to find, attempt, or achieve. Are you complacent? Is your life boring or mediocre? Has it all of a sudden snuck up on you? Great things never come from comfort zones. I was grateful to take a yoga class tonight. The breath is the royal road to the spirit and the yoga mat is my sanctuary. At the end of class the teacher read this quote, (I’m changing him to her) “The inner meaning of life does not readily reveal itself, it must be searched for. Such a search is the Quest. When a woman begins to seek out her real nature, to find the truth of her real being, she begins to follow the Quest. The Quest is veritable re-education of the self, leading in its turn to a noble transcendence of the self. Some come to the truth in a roundabout way. The Quest is direct. The Quest is spiritual mountaineering.” - Paul Brunton
It was a beautiful aha moment for me and a reminder of why I’m doing this cleanse. I am seeking clarity, creativity, and confidence in my personal and professional life. I am reaching to the farthest depths of my soul’s purpose. That is why I have to finish this cleanse. Thank you yoga. I love you so much.
My meals: Today I had to dig deeply to consciously prepare, cook, and eat food. I’m doing it for me and for you. The weekends are called Purification. To up the ante they want us to try all liquids for our meals and drinks. It’s optional so here’s what I did. AM: steel cut oats with almond milk, strawberries, and almond butter. I juiced a “Blueberry Blast Smoothie.” I was out of blueberries so I used blackberries instead with 1/2 lemon juice, a bunch of kale, and water. It was watery. I would recommend using coconut water or almond, coconut or hemp milk instead. Lunch, I made soup. What a perfect rainy, chilly day for soup! I made “Green Goddess Soup” check out the recipe at http://consciouscleanse.com/green-goddess-soup/. It was too spicy for me with the cayenne pepper so I added coconut milk and made “lemon parsley gremolata” and it was excellent! I had Mary’s crackers and enjoyed every warm, purifying bite! Dinner was the same and just as delicious. (Disclaimer: My son said, “Mommy, listen to me. This soup is not tasty. It’s not good either.”)
Love and light and keep going!
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” - Paul Coelho
